Uriel Jones
Born: Detroit, MI (13 June, 1934)
Nick names: Possum
Instruments: The studio drum-kit made up of Ludwig, Slingerland, Rogers, and Gretsch.
After touring with Marvin Gaye and the Motown Revue in the early 1960s,Uriel became a full time session player at Motown in 1964.
A prodigious talent at an early age,he was taken under the wing of Benny Benjamin to learn the Motown drum style which Benny had first created.
Uriel not only eventually mastered this but he could also mix the styles and was known by Motown's producers to be one of the more Rock oriented drummers.
Uriel along with Earl Van Dyke,James Jamerson and Robert White formed the core of the band when they played the Detroit nightspots like The Chit Chat Club or The Twenty Grand.
In the late part of the 60's Uriel was an indispensable component of producer Norman Whitfield's "psychedelic soul" with the songs like "Cloud Nine" by The Temptations and the new direction in which Motown had moved.
