Question: Who do you think has played on the most number 1 hits?
The Beatles...maybe Elvis Presley...what about The Rolling Stones...or The Beach Boys?
It is in fact a band called The Funk Brothers and they have played on more number 1's than all of the above artists combined.Thats right,more than The Beatles,Elvis,The Stones and the Beach Boys all put together.
The Funk Brothers were the inner circle of musicans at the legendary Motown studio in Detroit.Between 1959 and 1972 they cranked out all the backing tracks on hit after hit for people like Stevie Wonder,The Supremes,The Temptations,The Four Tops and all the other artists at Motown.
These highly skilled jazz musicians brought a new dimension to R'n'B and were the hub of "The Motown Sound".Despite the massive contribution they brought they were never fully reconised and their names still remain largely unknown.
I hope this website does a little to change that.
