Motown is known for having hit records and the honor of the very first hit that the company had goes to Marv Johnson with "Come To Me" in 1959.
Eddie was part of Marv's band at this time but soon after he was called to Motown to become a full time studio musician at "The Snake Pit".
While most of his fellow Funkbrothers were jazz musicians,Eddie was different in this respect as his background was more in country and the blues.
Born in Mississippi Eddie was no stranger to this type of music and his funky riffs and rhythms played off the more foundation oriented parts that Robert White and Joe Messina were usually laying down.
Eddie also occasionally played the sitar at Motown,
like on The Supremes 1969 song "No Matter What Sign You Are".
